Campaign Month of Roma Women Activism will be organized between March 8th and April 8th.
Just before the international Women Day, on March 7th, we will start this year campaign on a social event with activists from Roma Women Network, journalists and friends where we show the richness of our identities and diversity through telling our personal stories and thus illustrating this year campaign theme – All That I Am. It is our intention to smash prejudices and stereotypes against Roma women. We will demonstrate that we are not only proud members of the Roma people – though this is oftentimes first to be seen – but also workers, activists, experts, home keepers, citizens of this country, etc.
On the International Women Day, members of Roma Women Network will, as part of feminist movement, traditionally join women from all over Serbia and take part at the Belgrade’s women march. Over the next thirty campaign days we will have locally based, small actions in over thirty localities in Serbia each day. On April 8th, the International Roma Day, the campaign will be closed. This year we will again demand introduction and implementation of system solutions to problems Roma women face in Serbia daily.
For the fourth time, this campaign is being organized by Women Space together with all organizations and informal groups from Roma Women Network and until now this annual event has contributed to the visibility of Roma women activism and positive media reporting about Roma women, at least while the event lasts.
We expect from you to join us and provide your support in Belgrade, Niš, Novi Sad, Kruševac, Pirot, Aleksinac, Vranje, Subotica, Babušnica, Beočin, Vlasotince, Bela Palanka, Bujanovac, Novi Bečej, Dimitrovgrad, Lazarevac, Leskovac, Ljubovij, Odžaci, Prokuplje, Sombor, Pančevo, Ruma, Smederevska Palanka, Šabac, Trstenik, Žabalj, Ilandža, Kragujevac...
