At Women Sace initiative activists and volunteers of the civil society organizations – members of the Antifascist Collective of Niš marked the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) on May 17th.This public action was held at King Milan Square in presence of several hundred passers-by. During the action activists distributed a leaflet containing information about IDAHO. Hundred helium filled rainbow colored balloons were symbolically released into the sky.

This is the first time International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia has been publicly celebrated in Niš. World Health Organization (WHO) removed homosexuality from its International Classification of Diseases (ICD) in 1991. IDAHO reminds and warns that human rights belong to everybody regardless of their sexual orientation. Action was successful and without any incidents. Activist from Antifascist Collective of Niš – from the perspective of democratic changes and combating for human rights – rightfully believe this action was a landmark of importance for the city of Niš.
